On April 3 in conjunction with the iPad launch, Interview will debut its April 2010 “iPad Issue” with a digital version designed specifically for the gadget. The application, which promises 330 screens of images and text (think the Jersey Shore editorial with Bar Refaeli by Terry Richardson and features on Ke$ha, Kellen Lutz, Justin Beiber), plus 20 minutes of video and audio content (including a Bruce Weber video), will be available on the iTunes iPad store for a special edition price of 99 cents.  It precedes the print version by over a week — the April issue won’t hit newsstands until the week of April 12.

This is why I was happy to come across this post on the Whole Story blog, I couldn’t wait to try out the recipe, and because it was that amazing I have to share it here.

Carrot cake is a big hit any time of the year, but especially in the springtime. Yet a slice of traditional carrot cake with cream cheese frosting could pack more than 450 calories and almost 30 grams of fat — definitely something to consider before taking a bite!

Serves 16

Enjoy this hearty carrot cake for breakfast, a snack or dessert. Serve it warm or at room temperature.

Ingredients

Natural cooking spray
1 cup rolled or quick cooking oats
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups grated carrots
1 cup pure maple syrup
1 cup dried currants
1/2 cup unsweetened finely shredded coconut
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Method

Preheat oven to 325°F. Lightly oil a (9-inch) square baking pan with cooking spray and set it aside.

Pulse oats and walnuts in a food processor until coarsely ground. Transfer to a large bowl. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger and salt and mix well. In a second large bowl, combine carrots, maple syrup, currants, coconut and vanilla. Add carrot mixture to flour mixture and stir until completely incorporated. Transfer to prepared pan and bake until cooked through and deep golden brown, about 1 hour. Set aside to let cool before cutting into squares.

Per serving (about 2oz/67g-wt.): 190 calories (50 from fat), 6g total fat, 1g saturated fat, 0mg cholesterol, 230mg sodium, 32g total carbohydrate (3g dietary fiber, 19g sugar), 4g protein

What are your five key wardrobe pieces, things you wear constantly?

1. “Burberry trench coats, a great classic staple for fall or spring.”

2. “Madewell destroyed boyfriend jeans, I dress them up with my YSL heels for the office, or down with sneakers for traveling.”

3. “Punkrose leopard print sneakers, my go-to for days when my feet can’t take anything over .5 inches.”

4. “Chanel bag, I just got a large 2.55 after years of lusting after it. This one is the perfect carryall. My other tiny Chanel bags were always exploding with all the stuff I would try to pack in them.”

5. “My Rick Owens leather jacket, I can mix it with anything for an edgier effect. They are so expensive, but I stay on their radar and email list to make sure I’m always there for the sales.”

What wouldn’t you be caught dead wearing?

“I am really un-fussy. I don’t think I could ever wear a full look. Low-heeled old-lady pumps haunt my nightmares.”

What’s on your spring wish list accessories wise?

“I love the studded booties that Christian Louboutin did for Phillip Lim. I still haven’t been able to get my hands on those! Givenchy also did an amazing shagreen bag that I can’t get enough of. Also, one of my favorite New York shoe brands Zigi did some great leopard print high-tops.”

What’s your favorite mass store?

“Zara. Some of my favorite things in my closet have come from Zara. Their price point is unbeatable, and they have a great way of interpreting trends that’s a good medium between taste and quality.”

Random fact: The Balmain croc jacket shown in the third picture can be purchased for £38,637.00. Go on, do it!

A few random notes:

Solange Knowles (via  Twitter) mentioned a few weeks ago, the last black woman on the cover of Nylon was Lil’ Kim in 2003.

I am a bit obsessed with Zoe Saldana (have I mentioned this before?) who is Dominican.

Zoe was a blue person in Avatar so you know, blue… Did you watch Avatar? If you didn’t I won’t spoil it by telling you why that is relevant, but seriously, where have you been?

Here are some tidbits from the Nylon interview:

Zoe Saldana’s leading role in the most successful film of all time may have been along time coming, but she’s just getting started.  Here, the actress speaks candidly about Avatar, racism in Hollywood, and doing her homework in a mango tree.  Here’s a peek at what’s inside – read the whole story in our April issue!

On moving from New York City to the Dominican Republic at age 9:
“We went from this urban life to running around barefoot in the countryside and being taught how to gut fish.  We were learning how to climb coconut trees – let me tell you, they are fucking dangerous!… I would do my homework in guava and mango trees.”

“That was the beginning of a beautiful fucking romance.  That was my Xanax, let me tell you… it put all my demons in order.”

On Hollywood casting:
