Street scene

13 Jan 2010

This week the streets were only just moderately inspiring, however the first two pictures shown above, did make me think…

Leopard print jeans on one side, sequined jeans which I believe are by Siwy on the other. I had to like these, as I have in recent months tried on these two styles of jeans, and walked up to counters, only to change my mind at the last minute. I definitely think they are rad, and I definitely know I can rock them with fake nonchalance…

However, despite my ability to wear leopard print without pause, my ability to wear crazy tie dye jeans without pause, leather on bottoms, sequins on top. I can’t help but wander if these specific items are not just passing trend pieces, but are also attention seeking pieces that scream ‘look at me and my crazy pants’.

Do you see personal style or fashion victim?

I have to say, though considerably louder, the leopard print jeans do seem more true to personality and style, than then sequins on Chanel Iman. Maybe it is the comfortable ease of her pose, the patent doc martens or the sexualitee tank which I also own and love (like crazy), she comes off as knowing, not seeking validation.

Very specific details of these three: The time piece, shoulder pads, jumper and all three footwear choices caught my eye.

Future Perfect

29 Dec 2009

Future Perfect

I’m going to blame the recession for my inability to get excited about shopping for 2010. However this may or may not be true, as retailers are apparently doing pretty well.
Here I’m sharing a few spreads from my xxl collection of images and notes, love them for various reasons, especially when they embody the massive amount of hectic trends that emerged this year, whilst highlighting the true ones which will drive you nuts next season.
Dangerous studs and leather? Exposed zippers? Tie dye? Wavy messy hair? Makeup madness? Yep, they will all still be pretty rad.
The point is, don’t go to Bergdorfs. Shop your closet.

On the street

03 Dec 2009

I don’t care what you’re up to. I think it is very important to always dress like you. Like the person you want to be. You are whoever you want to be.

You never know when you might get stopped by the Sartorialist.

Kate Lanphear

Kate Lanphear

I have always admired Kate Lanphears style as she is someone I can directly look to for inspiration.

As a skinny jean, monochromatic favouring and strictly high heels kind of girl, Kate is the most perfect person to channel. She seems to know exactly what shapes and styles suit her body type, and when dressing she sticks strictly to this base using dramatic heels, statement jewellery and acessories to show off her personality. A downtown chick in the world of high fashion, she is a breath of fresh air, unlike the others who need to follow the catwalk trends (usually to ridiculous levels) to be able to sell them, Kate seems to be someone who long ago figured her own personal identity (check out her under buzz), and dresses only to compliment it.

When asked by Refinery29 to name some of her top personal style picks, she said “I know it’s so terribly boring. But I take my appreciation for tees to whole new heights and spend a small fortune on James Perse and Neal Sperling. Then, I just throw on an old Dior Homme blazer and the highest heels I can find.”

Shoe Porn: Platforms

23 Mar 2009

Fashionable girls love outrageous crazy heels, this is a fact that has been around forever. Heels lengthen your legs, draws your clothes down in fine lines, encourage good posture, and most importantly, no matter how bad your day is going, wearing shoes you love bring out the fierce. Platform heels are genius, and no this is not new information either. Not only do they fulfill all of the above, they keep you in balance, and as a result makes it easier for you to go crazy high when choosing a heel height.

Most guys do not understand platform heels. A few understand stilettos (maybe they prefer us walking slowly), but most just don’t get it. Your girlfriends however, will ooh and ahh and you know what? They’re the most important people in your life anyway.

First, from the amazing JAK & JIL blog, here’s the inspiration:
