Bootcuts for long legs

16 May 2009

Now this post might totally annoy a couple of the six people who I know read this blog… I say six, because even though I sent the link to my mother about a year or so ago, I’m under the impression she still can’t be bothered to check it out.

Anyways, this post is about me, yep, it’s totally narcissistic, but whatever… I feel the need to share this, because I have a strange feeling it may just help a few other girls who might be in the same boat.

So here’s the thing some of you may know that I am 5′10, which may not seem that tall (after all I have taller girlfriends), but for some reason my legs are freakishly not normal and this is probably the real reason why I have always worn skinny jeans, yep, before they were popular (as they don’t need to be that long). A very long time ago, I convinced myself that this was part of my identity, but I also know that anytime I walk into a denim store, I always, ALWAYS, hold random pairs of jeans up against myself, just in case I hit the jackpot. The jackpot being that one day, I will find the perfect pair of jeans, which are bootcut and over 35 inches long in the inseam so that I will be able to wear heels with them, and they will cover at least bit of my heels. The most annoying thing about this is that I also (mostly) wear a size 24 jeans, and so when I’m led to all those online places for tall girls, they never, ever, have my size!

This is probably why I own a lot, an embarrassing amount of jeans… I have always compulsively searched for them, and impulsively bought them.

I have everything from the cheaper American mall lines, yep some came long, but also made my ass look funny. I bought Rock & Republics when I was way too young to be able to afford them (the long ones were a 35 inch inseam – but guess what, I grew!), and when I was about 16 only dedicated myself to premium brands knowing that they always came slightly longer, and soon gave in to a few 18th Amendments etc etc

When Notify first came out I was so bloody excited, I went crazy. I got  a couple for myself, and gifted my only other girlfriend who I knew had the same issue (that’s the weird thing, some girls who are taller than me… Don’t have this issue!)

A few models were discussing this recently, most looking for at least a 37 inch so they can wear heels, and I thought, yep, I have to post this and share it with them. Especially since one of my favourite fashion blogs, Fashionista, recently published a post entitled ‘why are jeans so long‘, yes I get the average woman is shorter than me, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit ticked off, but after reading a few of the comments I realised I wasn’t totally alone in this, and so this is my attempt at sharing.

One day I will write up a proper list, I have images on my laptop, but as I’m currently using my brothers right now I will only share the two pairs of bootcut jeans (out of over 30 pairs of straight and skinny), which fit the bill perfectly, hopefully you girls in a similar boat can go out there and find them asap!

First up… The holy grail: Notify Azalee bootcut jeans (though I find them to be more flared than bootcut), which come in a 38 inch inseam. I found this on Net-a-porter almost two years ago, and just clicked add to cart without even thinking about it. I was not disappointed, they were, and still are, perfection! I later found out that the girls at French Vogue love Notify (they are also pretty tall… See Geraldine).

Main points: Fabric 98% Cotton / 2% Elastane / Rise 8″ / Inseam 38″ / Leg opening 21″

The picture below shows the jeans from a store pic, and the model Gisele (who is also very long limbed) wearing them about a month ago, with heels!

You can buy them online in the UK at Trilogy, and in the states from Kates Boutique, though do go google crazy, you never know!

Secondly7 For All Mankind 36″ Long Stretch Bootcut Jeans in Mercer. Now these are only a 36 inch inseam, but as they are less dressy than the Notify ones they work if you are wearing a lower heel, and for general everyday running around town.

Main points: 98% cotton / 2% elastane / 36″ inseam / 7.5″ front rise / 14″ at the knee / 18″ at the leg opening.

Buy online at Tobi, and of course Revolve!

Random facts related to this quest:

A  few years ago I modelled for a denim showroom simply to have access to long jeans!!!

Do you know the real reason why I hate ShopBop? Because their ‘long jeans’ section, only have like four pairs in a 34-35 inch inseam… This for me is short. Seriously, I didn’t even bother looking at any other sections once I realised that.

You should know that the above reason is why I love Revolve, OPTIONS!!! If you’re bored one Sunday evening, do browse the site, as there are a lot more options in at least a 36 inch that aren’t even on that list (they don’t pay me to say this, I don’t know them, but you know what… Maybe they should! :) )

ALSO… In an ideal world, someone will share jeans which come in small sizes and have a 38 inch inseam… I will love you forever!

I find this article very annoying. I myself wear a 38″ inseam when standing flat footed and am a 6′1″ female. YOU think you have problems? Well bucko, try being me. Models, don’t want long jeans so they can wear heels, they want long jeans so they can wear flip-flops. Stop being such an inconsiderate shorty, 35 inches is nothing.

J P,

I don’t understand people who take time out of their lives just to leave hateful comments on blogs.

I do not think you actually read my post at all… As if you did, you will see that we are saying exactly the same thing, so what if you are 2 inches taller than me? I need a 37inch inseam and a 24inch waist, i am a model as well. Did you actually read what I wrote? How is my own account of my personal quest for long jeans -for me- inconsiderate?

The post was in response to all the million and one other posts on the internet which ask… why are designer jeans made so long ( i linked to one on fashionista in my post ). These posts annoy me, because for the average person 34inch is long jeans, for me.. i can barely wear them with flipflops. However, as opposed to going on someone elses site, and attacking them for their own personal style dilenma, I wrote about my own personal quest to find jeans that were longer than a 36 (which is what i need for flats), and even longer for heels. The two jeans i featured in my post were 38 and 36 for this specific reason.

Again, I do not think you actually read it before commenting. If you did, you may have been linked to jeans, and websites that will be able to solve your problem.
I don’t usually respond to people who leave comments individually, but if this denim thing truly does bother you as much as it has bothered me in the past, i feel your pain, and i am responding to maybe help… You can find long jeans, if you are a model then we have the same long and small issue, and maybe you will want to buy the notify ones?

Thanks,
Matilda.

FINDING A WEBSITE THAT HAS VERY LONG JEANS BRIGHTENED UP MY DAY!!!!

I am 6′5″ and have a 39″ inseam!! There was a Tall Girl shop where I could get great jeans most of the time but they just closed all of their US stores and Long Tall Sally bought the Canadians stores. You can get jeans on Long Tall Sally’s sight but now only up to 36″ except for one 38″ pair that I already have and don’t fit me well. Thanks for some new ideas I will check them out!…Now you have 7 blog readers!

THANKS HEIDI!!
I will definitely do an update post, I have discovered and made notes on a few other brands which carry very long jeans, pants etc since I wrote this.
From memory…

Alloy do up to a 38 inch, but are actually cut more like 39 (unless you buy skinnies). Don’t love them, because it is way cheap and the denim quality reflects this.. However for everyday jeans you can replace and replace.. why not?

Hudson supermodel jeans where actually my first ever ‘long jeans’ and I’ve tried some on recently. They claim 36 and up, a few dark rinses are 38!!

I mostly recommend using searchbyinseam.com they’ve been a useful tool.
Good luck x
